Note to self: 12 Things to keep in mind when trying to overcome bulimia

1. Admit to yourself that you need help
It has taken way too long for me to admit that I have a problem. Today [Aug. 20, 2016] was the first time that I cried due to my problem. I am bulimic. I have been this way for 11 years (on and off). I need to stop.

2. Avoid trigger foods
I recently signed up in an online support group. One of the members told me to avoid trigger foods. For me, that would be anything savory.

4. Know your trigger foods
I am pretty aware of this. Im sure most people are. For some people, I think their trigger would be sweets. For me, it would be savory foods like barbecue, burgers, pizza, pasta, any meat. The problem with savory foods is that when I burp, I could taste the meat which makes me want to eat more food. Its a vicious cycle.

5. Go vegan
I was in a process of transitioning towards vegetarianism. I was doing fine for a month. I was eating vegan at that time but during my recent grocery shopping (3 days ago), I purchased eggs, cheese and hotdogs. At first, I was fine. I rationalized that since I was still in the process of transitioning, there was no reason for me to be strict during my sudden lifestyle change, "eating hotdogs would be okay", I said to myself. Oh how wrong I was. I finished 15 hotdogs in 2 days and finished the other 15 hotdogs in a day in one sitting together with 3 cups of rice and 3 hard boiled eggs. This particular event led me to my latest purging. This made me conclude that the only way for me to overcome this disorder is to go vegan because I have never felt the need to throw up while I was eating clean vegan.

6. Say goodbye to buffet restaurants
I live in a place where buffet restaurants are a big hit. These places are full of foods that makes me feel super guilty and at the same time, makes me want to eat till I'm nauseated till I get my moneys worth.
